Social entrepreneurship

This course aims to introduce the concept of social entrepreneurship, to explain the differences between an NGO and a social enterprise and explain how each can operate according to specific legal and institutional settings. It will focus on the financial sustainability of the business and the impact it ought to have on the benefeciaries in a social, ecological and economic setting. The course asks a set of core questions in order to define social entrepreneurs and their ways to make the right choices to scale their organizations to create meaningful and lasting change. The module will examine Arcenciel and Caritas and different social enterprises, in addition to a filed trip to one center or more of the organizations where participants will experience the work and interact with volunteers and staff members.
