Ce volume couvre un large éventail de sujets concernant les développements post-effondrement dans un certain nombre de régions clés du Proche-Orient ancien et des mondes méditerranéens. Les chapitres éclairent la dynamique de l'ordre politique et des idéologies du pouvoir en Mésopotamie et en Syrie, discutent des processus complexes liés à la crise et à la formation ultérieure d'un pouvoir dans le Levant méridional, analysent l'impact de la diffusion des technologies en Méditerranée, où les Chypriotes et les Phéniciens jouent un rôle central, examinent en profondeur le développement de diverses communautés égéennes et montrent comment les identités politiques émergentes se sont manifestées en Italie méridionale. Il va sans dire que les chapitres de ce volume ne peuvent pas et ne prétendent pas répondre à toutes les questions pertinentes. Cependant, ils offrent des perspectives actualisées, variées et critiques et, espérons-le, inspireront d'autres discussions sur la construction du pouvoir ainsi que sur les limites du pouvoir dans l'ancienne Méditerranée et au Proche-Orient au cours des siècles qui ont suivi l'effondrement du XIIe siècle.

This present volume covers a broad range of subjects concerning the post-collapse developments in a number of key regions of the Ancient Near Eastern and Mediterranean worlds. The chapters illuminate the dynamics of political order and power ideologies in Mesopotamia and Syria, discuss the complex processes related to the crisis and subsequent polity formation in southern Levant, analyse the impact of the spread of technologies in the Mediterranean with Cypriots and Phoenicians playing a central role, consider in depth the development of various Aegean communities, and show how emerging political identities were manifested in southern Italy. It goes without saying that the chapters in this volume cannot and do not pretend to answer all the relevant questions. However, they offer updated, varied, and critical insights, and will, hopefully, inspire further discussions of power building as well as the limitations of power in the Ancient Mediterranean and Near East during the centuries after the 12th century collapse.
