USJ Dubai Law Students at CDRC Vienna Mediation and Negotiation Competition

July 10, 2025

From July 10 to 15, 2025, a team of law students from Saint Joseph University Dubai proudly represented their institution at the IBA-VIAC CDRC Vienna Mediation and Negotiation Competition, one of the world’s leading forums for consensual dispute resolution.

Bringing together top universities from across the globe, the CDRC Vienna offers a unique simulation of real-world commercial mediation and negotiation, challenging students to apply legal knowledge, negotiation strategy, and intercultural communication skills in a dynamic and competitive environment.

The USJ Dubai team, composed of Khawla Alblooshi, Fatma Alfalasi, Jana Alieh and Antoine Iskandar, and coached by Lamice Nasr and Nathalie Sabbagh, demonstrated professionalism, adaptability, and collaborative spirit throughout the competition. Their preparation and performance reflected their commitment to becoming well-rounded, solution-oriented legal professionals.

Participation in this competition was a transformative experience for the team, who gained:

  • First-hand exposure to international best practices in mediation and negotiation;
  • Practical experience in managing complex legal disputes through dialogue and mutual understanding;
  • Valuable feedback from leading mediators, lawyers, and negotiation experts;
  • Cross-cultural teamwork and networking opportunities with peers from around the world.

The University extends its gratitude to the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC), the International Bar Association (IBA), and all the organizers for fostering this invaluable learning platform. Special thanks also go to the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC)  and BSA Law firm for supporting USJ Dubai’s participation and investing in the development of the next generation of ADR professionals.
