Join us in an academic panel and roundtable discussion on Administrative Decentralization in Lebanon: Prospects, Challenges, Policy Pathways, and the Critical Role of Women and Gender Equality, taking place on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Conference Hall 113, Asfari Institute, AUB.
Co-organized by the Observatory on Public Service and Good Governance at Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), the Embassy of Spain in Lebanon and the Good Governance & Citizenship Observatory (GGCO) at the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship at the American University of Beirut, and , the event will bring together leading scholars and practitioners to discuss the opportunities and challenges of decentralization in Lebanon.
The panel will feature Dr. Simon Kachar (Discussant), with contributions from Dr. Rayanne Assaf, Dr. Alain Cuenca, and Mahmoud Batlouni, followed by closing remarks from Professor Pascal Monin. Together, they will examine Lebanon’s historical and legal frameworks, the political economy of reform, and lessons from comparative experiences, while also highlighting the often-overlooked role of women in shaping and leading decentralization efforts.
