The Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) and Fondation Diane signed a Memorandum of Understanding on October 9, 2024 to strengthen support for education, with a particular focus on initiatives promoting Sustainable Development and Eco-Citizenship. Under this partnership, Fondation Diane will provide annual financial support to the University and its students over the next three years.
Fondation Diane is a non-profit, non-governmental and non-political organization that aims to educate, mobilize and support communities to create an environmentally sustainable future and to increase citizen awareness of ecological issues in Lebanon. Founded by Diana Sfeir Fadel in 2012 as a response to the environmental, economic, political and cultural deterioration in which the country was debating and its disastrous consequences on all levels, it is dedicated to promote civic awareness and support Eco-sustainable development within the framework of our three activity pillars:
The Chair of “Fondation Diane” in Education for Eco-Citizenship & Sustainable Development
Established by “Fondation Diane” and nested at the Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) in October 2015, CEEDD educates and raises awareness among citizens, schools, municipalities, NGOs and institutions, on eco-citizenship and sustainable development through five types of interventions.
The Civic Circle
The Civic Circle is an active lobbying platform that informs and mobilizes citizens to act towards eco-citizenship and environment respect, through various gatherings and events such as debates, green exhibitions, clean-up activities and campaigns, think tanks and women empowerment initiatives.
Viridis
Fondation Diane takes sustainability to the next level; besides education, awareness and mobilization, we identify the best green start-ups, provide them with financial and operational support, to help them grow and achieve their goals. By demonstrating that eco-sustainability and profitability are not incompatible but rather reconcilable, Viridis strives to make green businesses emerge and serve as an example for the country.
