Fondation USJ proudly announces that Mr. Varouj Nerguizian, a member of its Board of Trustees and alumnus of the Faculty of Economics (Class of 1976) at the Saint Joseph University of Beirut, has been appointed Financial Advisor to the President of the Republic of Lebanon, Mr. Joseph Aoun.
This appointment recognizes a career distinguished by strategic vision, leadership, and enduring contributions to finance, education, and the wider community.
Mr. Nerguizian launched his career at Paribas before joining the Bank of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, where he became CEO in 1992 and later served as Group CEO from 2018 to 2023. Since 2008, he has led Emirates Lebanon Bank SAL, a subsidiary of the Bank of Sharjah Group, and was a founding board member of Dana Gas, serving from 2006 to 2024. In June 2025, he assumed the role of Senior Advisor to the President of Dana Gas.
His impact extends far beyond finance. Mr. Nerguizian has been a driving force in education, serving on the Board of the Lycée Français de Sharjah from 1991 to 2002, becoming its president in 1998, and founding the Lebanese Education Fund SA (LEFSA) in 2003. He is also the founder and president of the Lycée Libanais Francophone de Dubaï, a board member of Growthgate, and has contributed to the High Council of the American University of Sharjah and the Strategic Council of USJ.
Mr. Nerguizian’s achievements have earned international recognition. He was named Knight (1996) and Officer (2016) of the French National Order of Merit, Knight of the Armenian Apostolic Church of Cilicia (1999), Knight of the Mekhitar Heratsi Order of Armenia (2004), and Knight of the Order of St. Gregory the Great by the Vatican (2013), in addition to receiving the Lebanese Emigrant Order (2023). In October 2023, USJ conferred upon him an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) in recognition of his exemplary career and commitment to society.
