USJ Alumni Elect New President

On July 8, 2025, the General Assembly of the Federation of USJ Alumni Associations convened at the Maison de l’Ancien on the Charles Corm Campus to elect a new president and form an executive committee. The meeting brought together Mr. Choucri Sader, Honorary President of the Federation; Prof. Christian Makary, outgoing President; and leaders from several affiliated alumni associations.

Mr. Sader opened the session by commending the Federation and its member associations, highlighting the enduring and meaningful connection between alumni and their alma mater. Prof. Makary then presented the agenda and officially launched the elections. By acclamation, H.E. Mr. Abbas Halabi, former Minister of Education and Higher Education and President of the Faculty of Law and Political Science Alumni Association, was unanimously elected President.

A follow-up meeting on July 14 assigned roles within the executive committee, which will support Mr. Halabi in his new responsibilities. The committee includes: Prof. Amine Zoghbi (Faculty of Dental Medicine), Vice President; Ms. Daisy Abboud (Faculty of Pharmacy), Secretary-General; Mr. Rabih Nassar (National Institute of Telecommunications and Informatics), Treasurer; and members Ms. Gisèle Chémali (Faculty of Nursing Science), Ms. Olfate Timani (Lebanese Institute of Educators), and Prof. Christian Taoutel (Faculty of Humanities Ramez G. Chagoury).

Mr. Halabi expressed his gratitude to the Federation members for their trust and recognized Prof. Makary for his dedication, vision, and the initiatives he championed during his term. He praised the achievements under Prof. Makary’s leadership, noting that they laid a strong foundation for future projects.

Looking ahead, Mr. Halabi emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration among USJ alumni, strengthening their sense of belonging, and building lasting ties across the University community. He underscored the pivotal role alumni play in supporting USJ’s strategic initiatives and enhancing its reputation both in Lebanon and internationally.
