We are proud to announce that Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) is a partner in a Horizon Europe – Research Infrastructures (HORIZON-INFRA) funded project coordinated by ACTRIS ERIC. The initiative brings together 26 European institutions and 7 non-European institutions, including the California Institute of Technology, Georgia Institute of Technology, Yale University (USA), Universidade de São Paulo (Brazil), North-West University (South Africa), IISER Kolkata (India), and Saint Joseph University of Beirut (Lebanon).

ATMO-SERV supports curiosity-driven research and advances scientific breakthroughs in atmospheric chemistry and dynamics by providing integrated, high-level research infrastructure services. Researchers benefit from access to over 90 state-of-the-art facilities and 12 advanced digital services, enabling cutting-edge studies on air pollution processes, atmospheric transport, ecosystem interactions, radiation, and climate.

Through its EMMA Research Group, led by Prof. Charbel Afif from the Faculty of Science, USJ contributes two key research infrastructures:

• Beirut Observation Site (BOS)

• PlAnOrT-PM, a platform dedicated to the analysis of organic tracers in particulate matter

Together, these facilities support advanced research in source apportionment, exposure assessment, and atmospheric chemistry, strengthening Lebanon’s contribution to international environmental research and to the science–policy interface.

This project reflects USJ’s growing role in international research and its commitment to producing scientific knowledge that helps inform public policy and environmental decision-making.
