In an effort to establish constructive and lasting relationships with stakeholders in the cultural and artistic landscape, the Ministry of Culture launched, nine months ago, the organization of the Lebanese Arts and Culture Forum — which aims to foster collective reflection on the entire cultural sector.
During this process, Professor Nayla Tamraz, Director of the program in Art Criticism and Curatorial Studies at the Faculty of Humanities (USJ), was in charge of the Visual Arts component. To this end, she conducted various consultations, individual interviews, and questionnaire-based surveys with visual arts practitioners, museum, gallery, foundation, institution, and union directors, as well as academics and publishers — a total of sixty stakeholders working to promote this artistic domain.
The outcomes of these discussions are presented in the sectoral report, which can be downloaded by clicking on the following link:

This report reviews the current state of the Visual Arts sector, outlining its strengths and weaknesses, as well as the challenges and opportunities it presents. It also defines the actions to be undertaken in the short and medium term.
It contributed to the preparation of the National Strategy for Cultural and Creative Industries document developed by the Minister’s office. Broader in scope, the national strategy document considers the Visual Arts sector within the wider framework of overall cultural policy and identifies priority interventions in each sector (Heritage, Edition/Publishing, Public Libraries, Museums, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Audiovisual, Music, Design) according to the resources available. Professor Tamraz expressed her sincere thanks to Minister Ghassan Salamé for the trust he placed in her, and to Mr. Jad Tabet, Adviser to the Minister, for his tremendous support and the monumental efforts he made to bring this strategy to fruition.
She also extended her gratitude to everyone who, through the insightful discussions they shared with her, contributed to the writing of this document.
