Walid was educated at: Baghdad College, Baghdad 1959, then took a BA in Sociology, Michigan State University, 1963 and MA and PhD in International Relations, The Johns Hopkins University, 1966, 1972.. He has been Director of Research, Institute for Palestine Studies, Beirut, 1970-73. Instructor, Political Science, Kuwait University, 1973-75 Director of Information, Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), Kuwait, 1975-1981 Managing Editor, Middle East Economic Survey (MEES), Nicosia,1981-2003, Editor-in-Chief, MEES, 2003-2004. Economic Editor. al-Hayat, Beirut, 2004-2006. He is the author of books and articles on geopolitical aspects of Middle East Oil.
