Citizen and NGO Initiatives Forum

 The Student Life Service of Saint Joseph University, organized in collaboration with the American University of Beirut (AUB), the forum of citizen initiatives at the Medical Sciences campus, on April 27 and 28, 2017, in order to encourage students to take part in civic life. More than 100 non-governmental organisations working in different sectors (health, women’s rights, human rights, road safety, environment and sustainable development, drug addiction, etc.) took part in this forum in order to highlight their work and promote their actions. With eco-citizenship and sustainable development at the heart of its concerns, the CEEDD Chair also participated in this forum by setting up an awareness booth at the USJ and AUB and organizing a workshop entitled “project-based learning in eco-citizenship sustainable development” at the USJ, hosted by Professor Fadi El Hage, Chair Holder, and Ms. Taghrid Diab, Professor, Faculty of Education Sciences, USJ.

This workshop focused on the importance of interdisciplinary project pedagogy as an educational approach aimed at changing attitudes and behaviours towards the environment. It gives an end to learning, but also affects in a wider way the personal project that individuals can build. The importance of this approach lies in the fact that it underpins active methods for the development of skills in the 21st century and that it educates an innovative approach in the training of young people and adults on eco-themes.citizenship and sustainable development.

Forum des initiatives citoyennes et des ONG 

Le service de la vie étudiante de l’Université Saint-Joseph, a organisé en collaboration avec l’Université Américaine de Beyrouth (AUB), le forum des initiatives citoyennes au campus des Sciences médicales, les 27 et 28 avril 2017, dans le but d’inciter les étudiants à prendre part à la vie citoyenne. Plus de 100 organisations non gouvernementales œuvrant dans différents secteurs (santé, droit des femmes, droits de l’Homme, sécurité routière, environnement et développement durable, toxicomanie, etc.) ont pris part à ce forum afin de mettre en valeur leurs travaux et de promouvoir leurs actions. Ayant l’éco-citoyenneté et le développement durable au cœur de ses préoccupations, la Chaire CEEDD a également participé à ce forum en montant un stand de sensibilisation à l’USJ et à l’AUB et en organisant un atelier de travail intitulé « project-based learning in eco-citizenship sustainable development » à l’USJ, animé par Pr Fadi El Hage, titulaire de la Chaire, et Mme Taghrid Diab, enseignante à la Faculté des Sciences de l’éducation de l’USJ.

Cet atelier a mis l’accent sur l’importance de la pédagogie de projet interdisciplinaire comme approche pédagogique visant à faire évoluer les mentalités et les comportements vis-à-vis de l’environnement. Elle donne une finalité aux apprentissages, mais touche aussi de manière plus vaste au projet personnel que peuvent construire les individus. L’importance de cette approche réside dans le fait qu’elle sous-tend des méthodes actives pour le développement des compétences du XXIe siècle et qu’elle instruit une démarche innovante dans la formation des jeunes et des adultes aux thématiques d’éco-citoyenneté et de développement durable.
