Pathologies of voice

This Teaching Unit is part of the Bachelors of speech and language therapy, in semester 3. It is mandatory. Dysphonia is a common voice disorder treated by SLPs in Lebanon. The aim of this TU is to teach the students about the existing voice disorders in order to facilitate the evaluation and intervention with dysphonic patients, and to provide the knowledge necessary for collaborating with other professionals. This teaching unit aims to develop the following competencies: - Reactivate the knowledge acquired during the TU “Anatomy, physiology and pathology of speech”. - Gain knowledge necessary for learning how to treat patients with dysphonia in 3rd Year. - Reflect upon the diagnosis and treatment of dysphonic patients. - Encourage students to self-development and information through group work. This teaching unit is based on the principle of « Collaborative learning » and « team-based learning », as well as “Flipped classroom”. Each lecture is divided into 4 sections: - Answering multiple-choice questions individually - Answering multiple-choice questions in groups - Correcting the MCQ and discussing the results - Going further through a clinical case-study Each face-to-face lecture is preceded by an individual and/or group assignment based on a book/article or video around a specific topic.
