Clinical approach to SLT 8

This teaching unit is part of the curriculum for SLT training in semesters 7 and 8. It aims at developing in the student a clinical approach to evaluation and SLT intervention with children or adults, presenting with various disorders (e.g., communication, language, voice). The student should learn to take into account the patient’s context: family, school, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. By the end of this TU, the student will be able to: Competency 1: Clinical approach Carry out a clinical approach to screening, evaluation and speech therapy, using objective reasoning and critical thinking. Competency 2: Collaboration Collaborate with the various stakeholders, and adapt to the interlocutor and context in order to establish specific therapeutic goals. Develop open-mindedness, and learn to take into account the opinion of others for a better practice. Acquire oral and written communication skills to optimize exchanges. Competency 3: Communication skills Acquire oral and written communication skills to inform and train professionals and parents about the disorders encountered and their influence on the patient’s life. This is done in order to prevent, screen and support. Competency 4: Therapeutic relationship Acquire oral communication skills to establish and maintain a suitable therapeutic relationship with the patient and his family. Competency 5: Research Engage in a clinical research process in order to advance linguistic knowledge and the SLT profession in Lebanon, taking into account the context, and using objective reasoning and critical thinking. Competency 6: Professionalism Take into account the deontological and ethical rules in all SLT therapeutic actions. Recognize lifelong learning needs.
