Smart Electrical Distribution over an Internet of Energy Platform

Description :

A framework policy for electrification to fight climate change has been adopted by many countries. In this context, the research results obtained so far show that electrification through distributed renewable resources and microgrids is a promising solution. Our research focuses on harnessing the capacity of distributed microgrids in a power network. The "Internet of Energy" (IoE) is an infrastructure that makes it possible to manage the exchange of energy according to distributed microgrids established by private sectors or municipalities. A smart substation will be integrated into each microgrid as an interface to the IoE infrastructure. The energy supply and demand transmitted by microgrids must consider the constraints related to the technical power distribution, digital communication and commercial exchange. Power routing algorithms for the IoE will be proposed to obtain resilience against unforeseen shortages and fluctuating resources. For a flexible, secure and robust design, the proposed smart substation is designed based on the IEC61850 protocol. There are already scientific results to manage the connectivity and exchange of energy between the microgrid and the public grid, however, these approaches don’t consider the automation related to offers and demands emitted by microgrids connected to the same public grid. To date, the two main functions performed by microgrid substations are control, regulation and protection. The work that will be carried out will further take into consideration other aspects such as the response time of the energy exchange and the congestion in the electrical distribution during simultaneous requests and offers of energy exchange.
