Prevalence of probable sleep bruxism in Lebanese children in the mixed dentition stage and its association to the occurrence of obstructive sleep apnea

Description :

The present study consists of a cross-sectional assessment of the prevalence of probable sleep bruxism in children in the mixed dentition, a topic recently regaining interest. Such a study has never been conducted in Lebanon. A sample of Lebanese children will be selected and categorized in terms of the presence of PSB, based on the clinical examination of the patients’ tooth wear and their guardians’ report of sleep bruxism. Guardians will be also assigned the Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire (PSQ) (14), in order to help diagnose OSA in the study sample. Besides assessing the prevalence of PSB in Lebanese children in the mixed dentition, this study aims to assess whether there is an association between OSA and PSB. Therefore, it could be useful to the future setting of applicable diagnostic guidelines, for dental clinicians, to depict intra-oral signs for sleep apnea.
