The EDSHS is an internal structure of USJ Beirut. It is shared by 9 USJ institutions (Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Religious Sciences, Faculty of Educational Sciences, Faculty of Languages and Translation, School of Translators and Interpreters of Beirut, Institute of Oriental Letters, Institute for Theater, Audiovisual and Cinematographic Studies, Lebanese School of Social Work and Center for Studies for the Modern Arab World) and is part of their joint research strategy.

Each institution must refer to the PhD regulations that determine the general framework within which the PhD Programs for postgraduate students enrolled in USJ faculties should be conducted.

Founded in 2005, it is part of a policy of interdisciplinary openness and a joint research strategy.
