This course provides translation students with both a practical and theoretical insight into the role of Public Service Translators and Interpreters. It focuses on the wide range of issues and challenges faced by these cultural and linguistic mediators and teaches students how to develop the relevant strategies and skills – including note-taking, sight translation, glossary building, as well as enhancing understanding of verbal and non-verbal communication cues – in order to bridge the gap between Service Users and Service Providers in a range of public service contexts.
