Massive Open Online Course (MOOC): Academic Writing

The U.S. Embassy in Beirut invites the public to apply to an online course entitled “Academic Writing” in partnership with the University of California, Berkeley: College Writing Part 2.2x
You will learn how to refine persuasive writing techniques and essay development and gain skills for proofreading, self-editing, revision, tone, and vocabulary.
 
Course Dates and Format
This online course will run for five weeks starting on January 11, 2016 and ending on February 14, 2016. In addition to the online classes, participants will attend two facilitated discussion sessions for the course at Haigazian University, in Beirut.
The U.S. Embassy seeks candidates who are:
·         Currently residing in Lebanon;
·         EFL Professionals; Undergraduate College Students
·         Committed to participating in the online sessions and attending the two facilitated discussions during the course.
How to apply:
1-      Visit the course College Writing page at: www.edx.org/course/english-grammar-essay-writing-uc-berkeleyx-colwri2-2, and apply online. Send your enrolment confirmation to BeirutPD@state.gov. You do not have to sign up for the verified certificate. No fees are required to participate in the online course. To be eligible to participate in the facilitated sessions, it suffices to click on join for free on the course page. 
2-      Download, fill the application form for the Embassy facilitated sessions and send it to BeirutPD@state.gov with the subject line: MOOC – Academic Writing. Click here to download the application.
Course Certificates
Candidates who complete the online course and attend all the facilitated sessions at Haigazian University will receive certificates from the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, and a Statement of Accomplishment from the U.S. Department of State and the University of California.
Application Deadline:
Applications should be submitted no later than December 30, 2015 at noon. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered under any circumstance.
 This online course and the Embassy facilitated sessions at Haigazian University are free of charge. The facilitated sessions are scheduled on January 11 and February 14 from 16:30to 18:00 hrs.

Successful applicants will be notified by email to attend the facilitated sessions.
