Mental health policy, law, and human rights

At the end of this module the student will be able to: 1- Articulate the connection between Mental Health and Human Rights 2- Understand process of mental health policy-making, strategies, plans and laws 3- Understand the Convention for the Rights of Persons with Disability (CRPD) 4- Identify the gaps and challenges in the Lebanese legislation and practices 5- Identify the major milestones to be achieved in order to move from charity/medical model to a model based on human rights and adapted to the Lebanese context (one example would be understanding the Quality Rights Tool Kit as a model (overview of the previous pilot projects, methodology, lessons learned etc.), another examples would be the holistic reform of the legal framework governing mental health in Lebanon (overview of the general principles and the major reforms embedded in the new draft bill)
