Orthodontics & Facial Stomatology

This course unit is delivered to speech therapy students during the second semester of the first year and is a compulsory subject. The “Facial Stomatology” component enables students to acquire fundamental knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the face, and to develop an understanding of facial malformations such as cleft lip and palate. It also introduces students to the role of the stomatologist and highlights the importance of collaboration with the speech therapist. The “Orthodontics” component allows students to become familiar with dental terminology and the classification of different malocclusions. Its objective is to help speech therapy students understand the resting positions of the orofacial muscles, as well as orofacial dysfunctions that have a direct impact on dental malocclusions.
