Dr. Sawaya received the Electrical Engineering Degree– Option Telecommunications in 1990 from the School of Engineering of Beirut (ESIB) of Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), received the Advanced Studies Diploma in Mathematical Modeling and Scientific Software Engineering from USJ in partnership with the Lebanese University in 1999 and completed his PhD in Electronics and Communications from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications, Paris, France, in 2002. Currently, he serves as a full-time Professor at ESIB where he began his career as a Lecturer in 1990. His research focuses on Wireless Communications, Information Theory and Channel Coding. Additionally, he holds the position of Quality Assurance Coordinator at both USJ since December 2021 and ESIB since October 2015. From 2005 to 2017, he served as the head of the National Institute of Communication and Information at USJ. A member of the Order of Engineers of Beirut, Lebanon since 1995, Dr. Sawaya is a Senior Member of IEEE, having joined the organization in 1999. He is a founding member of the IEEE Lebanon Section in 2005, serving on its Executive Committee from 2005 to 2022 and as its President from 2017 to 2018.
