Prof. Youssef G. Comair (FM, 1982) was recently named Chief of the Neuro-Oncology Section at UChicago Medicine, the academic medical center of the University of Chicago. This new role further strengthens his place among the leading figures in modern neurosurgery. He is recognized around the world for his expertise in treating complex brain tumors and is considered a pioneer in awake craniotomy, a technique that allows surgeons to operate on delicate areas of the brain while keeping the patient awake so that essential functions can be preserved.
He graduated from the USJ Faculty of Medicine in 1982, then completed his neurosurgery training at McGill University in Canada. He later pursued postdoctoral training at the Montreal Neurological Institute, where he further refined his expertise in brain tumor surgery and functional neurosurgery.
