Department of Mathematics

Mathematics is a tool that the human mind is constantly building and perfecting in order to understand the world, says Jean-Michel Bony. Mathematics has always been undergoing continuous development and its range of uses is constantly expanding. Omnipresent in all sectors of daily life: computing, finance, industry, climatology, surveys, data science... it has become a gateway to work in various organizations. USJ's Faculty of Sciences (FS) offers a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics (Bac+3 years of higher education) which provides students with basic knowledge in both theoretical and applied mathematics, thus preparing them to pursue advanced studies in these fields. This degree is offered at the Sciences and Technology Campus (CST) and at the North Lebanon Campus (CEULN). Holders of this degree can of course pursue a career in secondary education, especially after completing a CAPES or a diploma in didactics, but they are not limited to the field of teaching. Far from it, depending on their choice of specialization in a master's degree that they can carry out in Lebanon or abroad, they can work in the research of new techniques for finding solutions to scientific problems in various fields, make a career in the insurance and banking sector, bring their expertise to the various trades where a consultant's opinion is required. The Department of Mathematics of FS also offers two Master's degree courses (Bac+5 years of higher education): a Master's degree in Analysis and Probability for Partial Derivative Equations (PDE) and a Master's degree in Actuarial and Financial Sciences (SAF). For more information, I invite you to visit the pages related to these two masters. It is also possible to prepare a PhD in Mathematics at FS where several theses are initiated in partnership with French universities. The PhD (level Bac+8 years of higher education) is prepared over three years after completing a master's degree; it is a training in research and through research to contribute to the advancement of science.
